Hi there!
Welcome to iquit9to5 where you can find and easily understand what you need to know about finances. In today’s world money can be a grueling topic! The American culture steers away from talking about money and makes it a scary thing to discuss. On this page I hope to eliminate that stigma. Here you will learn more about who I am, what my story is and how I came to start this website as well as what you can expect to learn while you visit this site.
Who Am I?
My name is Eric Rozas. I was born in Orange County, CA and moved to Arizona when I was 6 months old. I would say I have had a normal life. I went to school, got a job, drive a car and have a smoking hot girlfriend. I’m no one special. I am just like you, the average American. I am not licensed in anything special or have a certification. The bottom line is that I have a story to tell and if I can help one person from my story then I hope it is you!
My Story
I was born in 1994 and grew up in Mesa, AZ where my dad started his own mortgage business. You could say I grew up like every other kid in my neighborhood, but I would disagree. Other kids in my neighborhood had basketballs and scooters to play with. I had cars and horses to play with. I tell you this not to boast but to give you perspective. Looking back, I now realize how spoiled and lucky I was to have a life like that. My dad ran a very successful business in the early 2000s so the word ‘no’ was foreign to me. For as long as I could remember I got everything I wanted. I had all the movies and video games you could imagine. I started liking horses and cars. My parents went out and bought me both.
Just as I started to realize that I had a lot of things my friends did not have I soon started hearing that foreign word, ‘no’. I will never forget when I realized something was wrong and my life was about to change forever. My dad had always wanted a fish tank in our living room. So, he went out and purchased a 65-gallon fish tank. His hobby was to go to the fish store to find new fish and coral to add to the tank. One day we made a family trip to the fish store and I found the most beautiful looking fish. Of course, I wanted it and asked my parents to get it. After living a life of rarely hearing no I became accustomed to always getting my way. When my parents told me, I could not get a fish I instantly fell in love with I was not happy, to say the least. I threw the biggest temper tantrum you have ever seen. I was screaming and crying and the whole store came to a standstill with my outburst. I was a spoiled brat but this was just the beginning.
Later, my dad sat me down and explained to me he was struggling with his business and I could not have everything like I did before. I did not like hearing that so I decided to take matters into my own hands. The next day after school I rode my bike down to his office to whip his employees into shape and get the business up and running again. My plan of running my dad’s office last one day after he showed me the ropes of how to run the business.
It took me some time to realize how to cope with this new life. I went from having everything I wanted to almost not having anything for Christmas (luckily the rest of the family stepped in and helped my parents by giving them presents for us). Around this time, I was about 13 years old. This was the age where I started to notice the real world and I started looking into why this was happening to my family. I learned more about the economic and the Great Recession. After looking into this more I realized it wasn’t just my family experiencing these hardships but all families!
I was still young but I remember wanting to help my family so bad. Not only was I not getting the toys that I wanted but the food on the table was becoming less and less. There was even one night where I told my mom I was still hungry and my dad gave me the plate in front of him. My parents did their best in these hard times and I could not be prouder and more appreciative of them.
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to help people. I want to help in any aspect of life whether it be lending a helping hand, offering advice or being there for someone. This mindset has stayed with me until today. I have been interested in money since I was younger. I do not want to make a fortune or tell you I will teach you how to make a ton of money. I have practiced different ways of how to manage money, make money and think about money. Now I want to share that knowledge with you.
