There are so many side hustles out there today it is hard to know which one is right for you. Even if you find the right one for you it may not be a legit side hustle. Learn what to look out for when considering different side hustles.
In this post we will go over some things to look out for when choosing the right side hustle. The idea of a side hustle is that you have the time to do it along side your 9 to 5 day job. If you are like me, you value your time with your family and doing the things you love so your time is valuable. You will want to make sure you invest your time in something that will pay off in the future.
What to look for in a profitable side hustle:
1) What is the product?
As you are searching for your next side hustle you will want to consider what the product is. A lot of products are seasonal or a one-time purchased product around a side hustle.
While this type of product can be popular and lucrative it is not sustainable. If you devote your time to a side hustle you will want to make sure it pays off in the long run.
Focus on creating a side hustle that people need on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. This way the customer will keep coming back to you and the side hustle can provide residual income
Furthermore, another important factor about the product is quality. Once you find a product that is needed on a regular basis you will want to make sure that product is better than all the competitors.
An example of this is cleaning products. Customers may not need cleaning products every month but they do need them every other month. There are tons of options to choose from when shopping for cleaning products. However, if your side hustle can fix the problem of the products not only killing bacteria but also the user (i.e. nontoxic cleaning products) and still do a good job cleaning then you have a winner!
2) Is there a proven track record of success?
Next, you will want to evaluate how successful the product or business has been in the past. If you are starting something from the ground up then you will want to review competitor’s products.
Regardless of what side hustle you choose you will want to do your research so you can anticipate what kind of success you will have. With any business venture there are risks involved and unforeseen circumstances but you will want to try to anticipate as much as you can to be successful.

3) How much time will it take?
Another thing to consider is the amount of time you need to devote to the side hustle. If you are passionate and can see a future in the business then you should devote as much time as possible. However, if you are like me, you will want to devote your time and build the business now and continue to reap the benefits in the future.
Consider how much extra time you have to devote to a side hustle. What do you do after work? Can you spend some of that time working on the business? For example, if you like to go out every night maybe once a week you can make dinner at home and spend the evening working on your business. Once you get more involved in the business you will prioritize your time to what is more important to you.
4) Is it something youre passionate about?
Next, is your business of choice something you believe in? The idea for a side hustle should not only be to increase your income but ultimately solve a problem in today's world. If we go back to our cleaning suplies example - this will not only make you money since your customer's will purchase from your store but they will also clean their home with less toxic chemical. The problem this solves is that there are no more carcinogenic (cancer causing) fumes in the air harming everyone in the household.
Whatever your business of choice is you will need to make sure it is something you are passionate about. 8 out of 10 business fail within their first 5 years. Why do you think that is? I think it is because business gets tough. When people get turned down or things don't go the way people want them to they get discouraged. You should choose a side hustle that you would do no matter what anyone else says.
5) What does it take to get started?
Lastly, consider your out of pocket expenses. How much money do you need to put down to get started? Putting money aside, how much time and energy will it cost you? Is this something you are willing to give up for the business?
Since there are so many different business nowadays there are many different choices out there. You could start a business for as little at $1 or as much as $100,000. Consider the initial investment and the future investment to the business.
